It’s been a year of significant firsts for Thomas Rhett and his wife Lauren, who became first-time parents after they adopted Willa Gray from Uganda in May of 2017, followed by the birth of baby Ada James just three months later on Aug. 12. The couple looks forward to another big event when they celebrate their first Christmas with two little ones.
In an interview with his label Big Machine Label Group, Rhett explains how he suspects Willa and Ada will feel that same sense of anxious excitement that he and Lauren experienced when they were kids going to sleep on Christmas Eve night. The singer is looking forward to experiencing that thrilling feeling along with his two girls.
“You know, growing up, waiting for Christmas felt like you were sitting there waiting for six years,” he says. “And now that we have kids, I do think that little anxious feeling of ‘God it’s gonna take me forever to fall asleep tonight’ is gonna be back–because we know that that’s what Willa and Ada are thinking about. So, it’ll be fun.”
The major changes in Rhett’s personal life inspired his 2017 album, Life Changes, which became his first No. 1 on the Billboard 200, while simultaneously serving as the first country album to land in the top spot on the all-genre chart in 2017. The album also reached No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and includes the two chart-topping singles “Craving You” featuring Maren Morris and “Unforgettable.” Life Changes is also up for Best Country Album at the 2018 Grammy Awards.
